چکیده

proliferation trend and polymorphism in 8 microsatellite dinucleotidalloci, a characteristic of japanese quail, were described in the present study. the primers concerned were tested in 200 birds from bonab research station. samples were taken from four strains of pharach, golden, tuxedo, and panda. in total, all loci were polymorphic, except for guj0001 and guj0041 in respective strains of panda and tuxedo which were monomorphic. various interpopulation variability parameters were studied for the tudy population. the average heterozygosity for all loci was 0.366. furthermore the average rate of heterozygosity, without an inclusion of monomorphic loci, was estimated as 0.374. maximum and minimum polymorphism information content (pic) and shannon information index (i) were respectively obtained for guj0059 and guj0001 loci. results indicate that in spite of selection for successive years along with closed mating system, there still exists a rather high level of polymorphism in the study population.

Mate-choice copying in Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica

We performed four experiments to examine effects on the mate choices of female Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica, of observing a male mate with another female. Each experiment was conducted in three phases: (1) a pre-test during which subject females were allowed to choose between two males with which to affiliate; (2) an observation phase, in which subject females either watched or di...

Enzyme on Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica) Performance

An experiment was conducted to study the eff ect of phytase enzyme (Natuphos 500) supplementation in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) (3 to 45 days of age) on body weight, carcass performance, percentage of tibia bone ash and tibia phosphorus. Data were analyzed as a completely randomized design arranged with fi ve levels (150, 300, 600, 1200 and 2400 FTU/Kg) of phytase enzyme as treatments 1...

Perceptual compensation for coarticulation by Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica).

When members of a series of synthesized stop consonants varying in third-formant (F3) characteristics and varying perceptually from /da/ to /ga/ are preceded by /al/, human listeners report hearing more /ga/ syllables than when the members of the series are preceded by /ar/. It has been suggested that this shift in identification is the result of specialized processes that compensate for acoust...

Microsatellite mapping of quantitative trait loci affecting carcass traits on chromosome 1 in half-sib families of Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)

The objective of this study was to identify the quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting carcass traits on chromosome 1 in Japanese quail. The populations comprised of 422 progeny in 9 half-sib families. Phenotypic data on carcass weight, carcass parts, and the internal organs were collected on 422 progeny. Nine half-sib families were genotyped for 8 microsatellite markers covering chromosomes 1...

Response to Selection for Body Weight in Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

The present studyinvestigated the impact of selection for body weight (BW) on productive performance, predicted BW and genetic improvement of related traits in Japanese quail. Base population, selected parent and F1 progeny were tested. Pens and cages were used for rearing and breeding. A total of 240 birds in two successive generations, 27 sires and 54 dams (as selected parents) were used. Bod...

Distribution of Thalamic Projection Neurons to the Wulst in the Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

The distribution of thalamic projection neurons to the Wulst was examined in the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) using the retrograde transport of wheat germ agglutinin conjugated horseradish peroxidase (WGA-HRP) method. After injection of WGA-HRP into the unilateral Wulst, retrogradely labeled neurons (RLneurons) were found ipsilaterally in zones A and B of the nucleus dorsolateral...
